After my last laptop died a firey death, I decided to head to Best Buy and check out windows 10. Better than 8, yes. Anyways, the fun news is, I decided to go all out this time; got a laptop with a 4k screen, 12g dd3 ram, 1tb 7200 rpm drive, graphics card has its own dedicated 3 gb ram... yea.
So I think I will be making some 4k Ferrari and Jeep videos...

So you owned something that caught on fire and you still own the Ferrari?
You're crazy :0

Sounds like a Dell or an Asus?

If he wanted to avoid fiery death, he wouldn’t buy a Dell.

Dude radness! Congrats. My laptop is coming up on 9 years old. I just use it to pay bills, some OPPO, and as a OBD scanner. I need a new laptop. They are not too expensive either. Hopefully around xmas time

I had an old Dell I used from college and it worked great (plus windows XP). When I moved across the country and was moving into my apartment it got dropped, so I bought a new Samsung. It lasted a year. Then I bought a Toshiba, it lasted 3 and then caught on fire. So I bought a Dell again.

Some of our computers at work still run XP lol. Mine is a Gateway and the charger/battery gets extremely hot. Laser thermostat showed the laptop batt at 140°F and the charger at 180°F. Fire could be its fate as well

I’ve had Toshibas for years and never had one fail yet. When the Oculus Rift comes out I want to get a mental gaming laptop with dual graphics cards etc.. I saw some at the GDC show.

The Toshiba is what caught on fire.

... and yet Kinja will still screw up your posts.

I doubt you’ll be able to make 4k video with that.
Watch it? Maybe.
Render? Lol, no. Should’ve built a desktop for that and bought a cheap laptop for mobility. Still would’ve been cheaper.

Sounds beastly! Did it come with an SSD?

That's not normal. Does the battery hold a charge anymore? My last laptop the battery would last about 5 seconds. Just long enough for you to panic and replug it in if you caught it in time. I wound up removing the battery and just running it like a portable desktop. No fire concerns there. Removes a little weight too. Just don't leave it plugged in when you're not around

Didn't that guy get arrested for drugs (weed?) and it ruined his career?

Congrats. My last computer the motherboard died. Googling told me it was pretty common for that make/model. Never had a PC last longer that 3 years, desktop or laptop. I've had my MBA for 3 years now so anything beyond this point is like a bonus.

all those specs but no SSD? :(

Two of my computers are Dell XP laptops. After almost 10 years, they are still running strong. My main laptop currently is a Lenovo W530. We’ll see how long it lasts.

One of my old Dell laptops had a bad battery, so I ran it as a portable desktop as well. I did end up gutting the old battery* to plug the hole in the bottom of the laptop.
*(Not recommended even if you do know what you are doing)

And may I ask why you feel I wont be able to record and review a 4k video?

I just left the slot empty and told myself it helped keep it cool

You can, but it’s going to take a
long
time to render.

It lasts like 20 minutes. Even with a new battery, the thing gets hella hot. Once i charge it, that black box thing in line with the charger (also new) gets insanely hot. When i’m not home, it is definitely not plugged in. Soon tho i’ll have enough of the moneyz for a good new Mac.... next year?...or 2

You can get the outgoing model of a lot of Mac products for cheaper when they bring out new ones. They still cost a lot but you'll save vs newest and greatest they have.
